Waste to Whale

     Using collected ghost gear from previous diving trips, we thought of the application and what we could do with a room overflowing with ghost gear. Thus we created a chandelier made almost entirely from PET plastics and ghost gear acquired from our diving team, using the whale as a strong symbol for the species being endangered by this ocean pollution—as whales are one of the species most globally endangered by ghost gear. Akin to a whale’s entanglement, the ghost gear string was woven onto the metal frame—symbolic to a whale. This upcycled chandelier was then auctioned at our “Night For Sustainability Gala—Charity Dinner” for over $3000 or 120,000 thai baht.
